What is an Apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships combine training in a job with study with hands-on experience, a salary and the chance to train while you work. Apprentices are treated just like all the other employees, with a contract of employment and holiday leave.
Apprenticeships are available if you’re 16 or over and you can become an apprentice as long as you spend at least 50% of your working hours in England - for the duration of the apprenticeship and you are not in full-time education.
As an apprentice you will:
· work alongside experienced staff
· gain job-specific skills
· earn a wage and get holiday pay
· get time for study related to your role

If you’re an employer with a pay bill over £3 million each year, you must pay the apprenticeship levy each month.
The levy due by an employer is paid to HMRC through the PAYE process alongside payment of Income Tax and National Insurance contributions and is held in a 'digital fund'. Your digital funds can be used to fund the recruitment of apprentices into your workforce as well as support the skills development of your existing employees.
The use of the levy for funding apprenticeships commenced after 1st May 2017 - Funds you don’t use will expire 24 months after they enter your account. For example, funds entering your account in September 2017 will expire in September 2019.
For further information or to discuss how we can support you in making the most out of your Levy, please contact our dedicated Apprenticeship Team on firstname.lastname@example.org or click the button below.
